The Kykso herd currently still consist out of 19
cow family's! Each cow bought by Kykso in the 1960's & 70's started there
own cow line or Cow family. Most cow family's originated from Germany with 3
from Namibia (Sonnleiten) and one from Austria. It is interesting to note
that some cow family's is famous in breeding well known bulls and
others well known cows. Some cow family's is more outstanding than others.
The mother line and father line reflect in the name of every Kykso animal.
In the female offspring the beginning of the mothers name is used first and
last the fathers name. The cow Mivha got the Miv from mother Mivla
and the ha from father Hadau. With male animals the fathers name is
used first. If Mivha was a bullcalf she probably would be named Hamiv or
Hami.....

In Germany this cow family was known as the
Drossel cow family. (Drossel, grandmother of Daune) An outstanding cow line.
In the Kykso herd this cow family produced some of the very best breeding

This family is known for its longevity. Mother Mirl got 11 calvings in 1967, Minka herself 11 calvings on the age of 13 years and 8 months. Her inter-calving period 404 days. The oldest cow in the Kykso herd is the 20 year old Kykso Mijal. (Mother of Kykso Hami and grandmother of Kykso Hano) In 2005, 5 export embryo’s were flushed from her and she was made pregnant in 2006 for the last time.

Sonnleiten Pampoen, already 10 years old, was the second cow that calved in the Kykso herd. Kykso Penny MS2 born 20/01/66. F: Nata Pierre F868 F65. All descendants of this cow family in the Kykso herd came through Penny. She was an extraordinary cow. With her death she had 12 calves on the age of 14 years and one month. At the time there were already 20 animals in the herd from her progeny!
Some of the top cows during the years were produced from this cow family. Kykso Pemdama reaches an age of 17 years and her daughter Kykso Pemdaha was an embryo donor who bred the bull Knox Benz. Semen of Knox Benz is selling internationally.
Today there is one daughter of Kykso Pemdama and one daughter of Kykso Pemdaha in the herd. The Salerika Evan daughter out of K. Pemdaha is breeding very well.
