Breeding Aim

Kykso breeding is based from the beginning on cow lines or cow families. This is still very important to us.
The herd was kept more or less closed for many years. When new blood was infused, it was used to bred top bulls from outstanding Kykso cows to use as a breeding sires. Example's of bulls that were bred like this in the past: Kykso Kaimat (F:Kaiser), Kykso Hadau (Hagen), Kykso Hafet (Hafke), Kykso Heimda (Bernheim), Kykso Balger (Balaton). Line breeding helped to created the desired type of animal that breeds consistent. The breeding sires' mother was always a very important selection criteria. Today the herd opened up by using poled genetics from different bulls. Animals is selected on economic trades: growth, fertility, adaptability and also pigmentation.

The herd is divided into two different sections. Half of the herd is kept as suckler cows and on this herd also poled genetics is introduced. The other half is selected for milk production, introducing genetics from Bavaria to increase milk production. The same selection criteria apply as for the suckler herd, but additionally an emphasis on the udder as well.

Production Auction
Every second year, on the first Wednesday of October, (2006,2008,2010) Kykso Simmentalers and the sister stud Kyksim Simmentalers held a production auction where elite animals of both studs came under the hammer. Under the plus minus 80 animals on the role, there are usually quite a few show animals.

Embryo flushing centre
In 2003 a new quarantine facility and laboratory was build at Kykso's home base for flushing and exporting of Kykso genetics. Several embryo's were already exported to South America, Australia and Canada. This facility is also used by Bavarian Fleckvieh Genetics to collect semen from there South African owned bulls. Semen of these bulls are sold throughout Southern Africa.

International program

We at Kykso are thrilled to announce that we have  formed an exclusive alliance with "Bavarian Fleckvieh Genetics" and the well known "Karova Simmental" stud from Australia. This new alliance will be called  " TRI-CON ". Fleckvieh/Simmental Global Marketing. Embryos from elite cows of Germany, Kykso and Karova will be used in a joint program between the three continents of Africa, Europe and Australia. This will enable a global distribution of the world's best Genetics to give you, the breeder, the best opportunity to breed the best!

Kykso Quarantine & Lab

Quarantine and Lab

Line breeding and the relative closed Kykso herd gave Bavarian Fleckvieh Genetics (BFG) the opportunity to reintroduced old extinct bloodlines back to Germany. The bloodlines of Kater, Hafke and Bernheim is extinct in Germany. Knox Benz (Father line: Bernheim), a Kykso Pemdaha son is the first South African genetics that was reintroduced in Germany. Future genetics that will go back to Germany will go via Karova in Australia where embryo's are raised and potential bulls are flushed.

In Canada another partner of  BFG also raised Kykso calves for the reintroduction of old genetics to Germany.

Embrio Plus is the partner for flushing and exporting the embryo's. Dr Robert Treadwell is the vet that do the flushing every 3rd month.
